Missed Connection

Have you ever seen those “Missed Connection” ads? You meet someone randomly and don't say anything. Of course you later regret this (unless s/he was a total creeper) and post it on the Internet. Because that's brilliant. Probably on CraigsList or something and you get a bunch of murderers responding to your ad for a missed connection in Starbucks. I feel so safe in the web!

Until now I thought these were pretty stupid, but it actually happened to me today!

So I had a test today in my management class. I had stayed up until about midnight studying for it, and taking notes since it was an open notes test. I know what you're thinking, but the notes are really totally useless. I didn't use them at all in my last test (or this one either) and I got a 194/200 on it. Take THAT! Of course my posse in that class has hated me ever since, but such is the price I pay for brilliance. Sorry gals!

I walk in with ¾ of my posse and get our usual seats. I will continue my habit of referring to my friends by the first letter of their first names. C immediately starts to freak out. There's much complaining about my high score on the last test. M hadn't heard how well I did, so C made me tell her. M hates me too now. WONDERFUL, as if I'm not stressed out enough already.

I'm saving a seat for the last 1/4th of my posse K, who is always late. A cute guy walks up and asks if I mind him sitting in the seat I had been saving for K. A combination of test-stress, and his cuteness made me say, “Uhhh... sure.” I know, I'm a brilliant conversationalist. Anyways, he sits his cute ass down and I pay him no more attention.

Until he starts singing 'I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias. Umm... what? Okay, weirdo. You're still cute as hell and now you're singing an awesome song. I can't help wondering if he's batting for my team. I initially didn't think so, but now I'm not so sure. Even though I love that song, I can't but think that he's strange. I turn over to C and M and “show” him to them. We all giggle a bit and go back to freaking out about the test.

Cute singing guy (I've since found out his name starts with a J, so that's what I'll call him from now on) gets up and leaves the room for a bit. C, M, and I go on to blatantly discuss him.
M - “Do you know him?”
Me - “No, I've never seen him before!”
C - “Did he just randomly sit there and start singing?”
Me - “Yes!”
We all shut up quick when he came back in. At this point it is 2 minutes before the test starts, and I'm worried about K. She's still not there! I quick turn my phone back on (I dunno why I turned it off so early, I blame it on the test-stress) and call her. She starts rambling on about her trip to school and asks whether or not I have an extra pencil. If you know me, then you know this is a stupid question. Today I had 3 pencils and an eraser pencil. I assure her that she's fine, and then she walks into the room still talking to me on the phone. I love my eccentric friends.

Anyways, K sits down in the seat next to J and immediately strikes up a conversation. That man-stealing bitch. (She's lucky she found out his name for me or a head would have rolled!) By now the professor is passing out the test. I can see him shooting them dirty looks for continuing their conversation, and I wholeheartedly agree that they should stop (for completely different reasons).

So there it is, my missed connection. K and I are now fighting over him, and I'm confident that I'll win.  One of my other friends, MR, has told me to take that bitch down.  Don't worry, I'm sure I will.
